LA Gezi Platform is a not for profit grassroots organization that has been actively involved in public outreach. Since June 2013, LA Gezi Platform has been organizing weekly and biweekly forums, hosting guest speakers and facilitating working groups @ 18th Street Arts Center in Santa Monica, CA.
Also in the past 2 months the LA Gezi Platform has:
1- facilitated working groups on topics such as education and and legal support.
2-contributed to the 5K run in Huntington Beach, where all proceeds went to TEGV & TOCEV in Turkey.
3- collaborated with other Gezi groups and platforms across USA on various projects. For instance Chapul’LA is being developed in collaboration with Turkish American Gezi Platform in San Francisco. We’ll be videotaping a segment for the Baris Icin El Ele event in Istanbul upon request of NY Gezi Platform during this weekend’s Beware of Gulen Movement demonstration in Santa Monica.
4- participated in two art events at the Torrance Art Museum and CicLAvia/ Craft and Folk Art Museum to reach out to local artists and activists.
5- developed infographic posters that communicate complex and lengthy information in easily comprehensible visual format.
6- collaborated with a local research university on developing a Gezi archive.
In the future LA Gezi Platform will become a non profit organization and continue the trajectory outlined above as well host panel discussions, film screenings and other educational events in support of Gezi and the related election campaigns in Turkey commensurate to raised funds.
